Youths 4 Advocacy - (Y4A) empowers youths to transition successfully from school to life in their communities

About us

Bios

image Deborah Zuver has a background in using interactive approaches as learning tools and is co-director of A4A. She works with self-advocate trainers to prepare and present training workshops in leadership and self-advocacy and collaborates with partner agencies.

image Kira Fisher has a background in teaching children with disabilities; she was the first member of AmeriCorps with a disability in North Carolina to complete two full years of service. As project coordinator, Ms Fisher teams with the co-director and self-advocate trainers.

imageRobyn Dorton is a self-advocate trainer who presents interactive training sessions with Project STIR. She received the 2006 NC Self-Advocate of the Year Award from the Association of Self-Advocates of NC and was president of her local self-advocacy group. She became her own guardian in 2000.

imageWilson Finks is a self-advocate trainer who presents interactive training sessions with many Project STIR programs. He is a graduate of the NC Partners in Policymaking Program and a past president of the Association of Self-Advocates of NC. He was appointed by Governor Easley as a member of the NC Council on Developmental Disabilities.

Barbara LeachBarbara Leach focuses on family and diversity aspects of Y4A. She links Y4A with the Family Support Network.


Joann HaggertyJoann Haggerty evaluates how Y4A is successful so that the project can improve.



Greg OlleyGreg Olley is principal investigator for Y4A and oversees planning for the project.
